WHO’s  would-be Regional Director for Africa passes on

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (PANA) – The recently appointed World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Faustine Ndugulile has passed on.

Tanzania Parliament Speaker, Dr. Tulia Ackson announced the death of Ndugulile, Member of Parliament for Kigamboni Constituency of Dar es Salaam, saying it occurred on Tuesday night in India where he was undergoing medical treatment.  He was 55 years old.

Ndugulile was appointed in August 2024 by the WHO Executive Board in agreement with the WHO Regional Committee for Africa for a five-year term. He was due to succeed Dr Matshidiso Moeti, who has served two five-year terms at the helm of the WHO Regional Office in Brazzaville, Congo.

Dr Ndugulile’s nomination was slated for official appointment by the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board, which will take place in February 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
