US to lift visa ban on Gambian officials

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – The US Government will soon lift the visa ban it slammed on Gambian government officials and their family members, according to Mrs Amie Bojang Sissoho, the Press Secretary and Head of Public Relations at President Adama Barrow’s office in the Gambia.

According to her, the US has been positive in lifting the ban that was imposed in October 2016.

This followed the new government’s decision to allow the return of some 2,000 Gambians the US wanted to deport.

The former regime of Yahya Jammeh had refused to welcome these people, prompting the Obama Government to come up with the visa ban.

Meanwhile, according to Mrs Bojang Sissoho, the Gambia and US are now enjoying fruitful bilateral cooperation.

“The Gambia is also to be listed on the Millennium Challenge Cooperation and there are plans for the USAID to engage in The Gambia,” she noted.
