US Special: Burhan decisions positive

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA)- The U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, has described as positive the decisions of the government of the Sudan to allow the UN agencies ship food to different areas and oversee the humanitarian aid distribution as well.

The Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council. Lieutenant General Abdul Fatah Al Burhan announced that three major airports be opened before the UN relief flights and that UN and international organizations staffers be permitted to travel and oversee the distribution of relief and humanitarian assistance.

Perriello said his government welcomed the announcement by Sudan's Sovereign Council to establish UN humanitarian hubs in El Obeid, Kadugli, and Ad-Damazin, and to enable key response oversight by UN staff throughout Sudan.

The U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan argued in a post on his official X account on Tuesday that with this decision and the announcement of regular humanitarian flights to additional areas in Sudan, all authorities and humanitarian partners were called on to move quickly to implement key famine response and prevention activities, including in hard-hit areas such as Khartoum, central Sudan, Zalingei, Western Sudan, and Sinnar, south eastern Sudan.

“Let’s turn these positive decisions into results for people in every corner of Sudan” the US official argued.
