Togo: WAEMU observers in Lomé for 25 April presidential election

Lomé, Togo (PANA) – A delegation of observers from the inter-parliamentary committee at the West African Economic and Monetary Union (IPC-WAEMU) is in Togo to supervise the presidential election due for 25 April, official sources told PANA on Saturday.

The WAEMU observers, led by Nigerien MP Moussa Zangaou, will spend two weeks in Togo to observe the poll (before, during and after the election) and submit a report at the end of the mission.

In its itinerary, in addition to observing the polls, the IPC-WAEMU delegation will meet with the Togolese authorities, political parties and the different organizations involved in the electoral process.

The WAEMU mission includes the MPs from the Union - Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger and Senegal. Togo, a member of the Union, can be member of the mission.

The Togolese presidential election is due for 25 April with five candidate on the ballot paper - President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who is running for a third term, Jean-Pierre Fabre, opposition leader, Gery Tamaa, candidate of the New Citizen Commitment, (NET), Aimé Tchabouré Gogué, candidate of the Alliance of Democrats for integral Development, (ADDI) and Mr Mohamed Tchassona Traoré, candidate of the Citizen’s Movement for Democracy and Development (MCD).
