Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) - The South African government has condemned an incident of racism at a Cape Town bar which has made headlines around the world.
Thabiso Danca laid a complaint after he was last week barred from entering Hank's Olde Irish pub in the city centre by a doorman who allegedly said black visitors had to be accompanied by whites.
Danca informed his friend, Christopher Logan, who went to the bar to confront one of the owners.
They arranged for the incident to be filmed, and Logan humiliated the staff. He was later assualted.
The video, which has racked up thousands of views, can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lOdBzmaPHE
The bar has since released a statement denying any accusation of racism. However, the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters has staged protests outside the venue and prevented it from re-opening.
The South African government has called for an investigation "to probe the incident with speed and to ensure that justice is served”.
It also “calls on all South Africans to follow Logan’s lead and take a stand against racism”.
