Senior Libyan official calls for concerted efforts to protect consumers
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Minister of economy and industry of the national accord government Ali al-Issawi said here Thursday that "achieving effective consumer protection requires concerted efforts and cooperation between all the responsible authorities, both legislative and executive and of control, and the institutions of the civil society".
"The goal is to activate a number of regulations and laws that contribute significantly to protecting the consumers and ensuring they get high quality goods and services," said al-Issawi, quoted by a statement released Thursday by the ministry of economy.
He also stressed "the need to work to establish a communication room that brings together all relevant authorities to be in continuous work, and to form a joint technical committee on this subject that works on the technical side, as well as the media to educate and guide the consumer with all available media”, according to the same source.

Also taking part in this meeting were the municipal guards body, the department of environmental sanitation affairs, the ministry of local government, the union of consumer associations and the Libyan organization for the protection of consumers.
Since the revolution of February 17, 2011 and the overthrow of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi and with him the collapse of state institutions, Libya has been facing a problem of control over the products of various natures entering the country in large quantities but which quality standards do not meet the country's hygiene criteria.
