Senegalese minister calls for participation of social partners in public policies
Cotonou, Benin (PANA) – The president of the Social Dialogue of Francophone International, Senegalese Mrs Innocence Ntap Ndiaye, on Tuesday advocated the involvement of social partners in the formulation of public policies.
"It is important to improve and make more inclusive the participation of social partners in the elaboration of public policies, particularly in terms of employment, labour, migration and informal economy,’’ said Mrs Ntap Ndiaye, in a speech at the second general assembly of the social dialogue in Cotonou.
The conference is under the theme: "Social dialogue, public policies, labour migration and informal economy."
"Today, social dialogue is an appropriate mechanism to contribute to an economic development with social progress in our respective countries in a participatory approach with social partners," she said.
"In that respect, the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in tripartite social dialogue which are governments, workers’ trade unions and employers’ organisations, deserve being examined and revised," she said.
Mrs Ndiaye said that social instability and the insufficient participation of social partners in the formulation of public policies compromises the optimal action and fair redistribution of riches within countries.
In that respect, she expressed regret that our economies not generating sufficient jobs, our societies are exposed in a structural way to labour migration which affects the youth.
The conference, which opened on Monday has brought together representatives from about 20 francophone countries. It aims to "improve and make more inclusive the participation of social partners in discussion of public policies, particularly in terms of job creation, labour migration and the informal economy".
The conference is due to end on Wednesday.
