Bamako, Mali (PANA) - The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday called for the media in Islamic countries to support their Palestinian colleagues in their efforts to denounce violations of the Israeli occupation.
In a statement issued by OIC on World Solidarity with the Palestinian Media celebrated on 11 May every year, it called on member agencies to support Palestinian bodies to enable them "to obtain their legitimate rights, the first of which is the establishment of their independent state".
The OIC stressed that the day, which coincides with the murder of the martyred Palestinian journalist Sherine Abu Aqleh, represents an important opportunity to shed light on Israel's targeting of Palestinian journalists as part of its attempts to conceal its ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people.
The Organisation praised the high-level professional efforts of the official media institutions in Palestine, led by the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), to accurately report what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territory.
It called on Member States to improve the information exchange with these institutions, so as to ensure the dissemination of the Palestinian version of events and to counter the Israeli propaganda machine.
