Libyan minister calls for food security strategy
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed al-Haweij, has called for a team to prepare a short and long-term food security strategy for the country.
This should include the activation of stalled industrial projects, through investments with the local and foreign private sector and the activation of agricultural services in the southern region.
He said the team should include the chairman of the Economic and Social Development Council, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Investment Promotion and Privatisation Affairs, and the Ministry's departments of private sector development, investment and internal trade with whom he held a meeting in Tripoli on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed ways to support the agriculture, industry and trade sectors and develop a strategy that contributes to consumer food security, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy.
The meeting also discussed the ministry's plan to activate the Grain Board and its contribution to supporting agricultural and industrial activities, organising the supply and distribution of wheat and flour to companies, mills and bakeries, providing a strategic stock, and controlling the local market in order to ensure the stability of goods and improve services.
The food security strategy involves the activation of industrial projects blocked by investments with the local and foreign private sector and the activation of agricultural departments in the southern region.
