Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Director-General of the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control, Haider El-Saieh, has praised the role played by the Centre in supplying medicines and facilitating administrative procedures for people infected with HIV/AIDS.
This was made in a speech during Saturday's celebration of World AIDS Day in Tripoli.
The centre provides the necessary support to patients living with AIDS and strives to improve the state of health of those infected by the disease and to integrate them into social life, according to a statement issued by the Centre.
It is also involved in educating the public about the importance of disease prevention, warning and rejecting stigmatisation and discrimination against infected people.
Nadia Al-Bakouch, the Director of the Department of Social Services, School Health and Psychological Support at the Ministry of Education, also took part in the scientific day organised by the Department of AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases at the National Centre for Disease Control.
The conference was under the theme "One path - One goal", to coincide with World AIDS Day.
Scientific papers on blood transfusion services and HIV infection, developments in HIV treatment by injection, change and advocacy, and the Libyan organisation for the protection and support of people living with HIV were also presented.
